What Are Dunnage Bags?

1. Bison Dunnage Bag (Level 0)
The Bison model is designed for lighter loads, particularly in truck shipments. It can be placed in both vertical and horizontal voids and is equivalent to a 2-ply paper bag, withstanding 2–3 PSI of pressure. Its affordability makes it ideal for cost-conscious logistics operations.
2. Level 1 Dunnage Bag
Level 1 bags are among the most commonly used and are suitable for both truck and container transportation. Also equivalent to a 2-ply paper bag, they support heavier loads than the Bison model and provide reliable protection with 2–3 PSI of working pressure.
3. Level 2 Dunnage Bag
Level 2 bags are designed for international shipments and are suitable for ocean freight, trailers, containers, and rail systems. Equivalent to a 4-ply paper bag, they can withstand up to 6 PSI and are effective for loads up to 34,000 kg (75,000 lbs), especially in longitudinal gaps.
4. Level 3–4 Dunnage Bags
These bags are equivalent to 8-ply paper bags and are ideal for loads ranging between 34,000 kg and 93,000 kg (75,000–205,000 lbs). They are widely used in rail transport for securing large and heavy items like plywood, bricks, and paper rolls.
5. Level 5 Dunnage Bag
Level 5 is the most durable option in the International Dunnage product range. Designed for extremely heavy cargo exceeding 93,000 kg (205,000 lbs), it is perfect for railcars and sea freight involving metal coils, bricks, and other heavy-duty goods. It offers exceptional protection in the most demanding transport conditions.
6. Bladder Bag
Polyethylene Bladder Airbags offer a cost-effective solution for securing lightweight cargo during transportation. Designed in sizes similar to standard dunnage airbags, they provide versatile application across various types of loads—particularly those with smooth surfaces. Bladder Bags are especially well-suited for in-box load securement, making them an ideal choice for protecting lighter goods efficiently and economically.
7. Square Bag
Square Airbags are specifically designed to fill lateral voids wider than 12 inches (30.5 cm), where standard Dunnage airbags are not suitable. Our AAR-verified Square Bags are engineered for optimal performance and are particularly effective in large voids and rail transport applications.
Dunnage bags are not suitable for air transportation. However, International Dunnage offers various alternatives for air cargo, including anti-slip sheets, strapping and lashing systems, and rubber mats to ensure proper load securement.
